Question by How ’bout them Cowboys?: Why would Taylormade make Golf Clubs with weights of the pros probably wont even use the weights?
Seriously, I think paying extra money out of your pocket for drivers with weights is just plain stupid. It’s like you’re paying to let the clubs do all the work for you. Golf wasn’t made that way. The player is supposed to chose the destination for the ball, not the weights on a driver.

That’s because pros can hit the ball straight, or with a fade or draw. The weights are to assist the novices (you) who can’t do that consistently.

r u kidding. I bet you use metal drivers and fairway woods. If thats how you feel, then just wittle you some clubs out of a tree in your backyard, and bake yourself some balls out of clay. Technology has changed golf drastically over the years, the PGA keeps strict rules on what is allowed, and what is not. So for an amateur golfer who is trying to get better,(which is the majority of Taylormade’s market) why would you not use every advantage available to help yourself shoot better. It makes a weekend a whole lot better if your playing good.
Ok, most of the pros that use the driver find the best setting for the weights and leave it for the life of the club. Just like if someone had a natural fade, they would buy the R7 and set it to the draw position and never change it. Just like me, I bought the Callaway FT-5 Draw, cause I have a natural fade. **FYI…they’re not allowed to change the weights during a tournament.
The golf industry is reaching a plateau in terms of technology and needs to come up with marketing gimmicks to meet financial goals every year. Golfers who shot 85 and above probably do not benefit much from the weights on their drivers. If you shoot above 90, you probably have swing flaws. Even 80’s golfers have swing flaws, they’re just able to compensate by good course management and short game.
I agree changing grams of weight on clubs is not helping the average golfer.
Try reading golf advertisements. They’re really funny. They say things like more accuracy and higher MOI and better launch angle…Why didn’t they just include this in last year’s model of irons. Creative marketing is to blame.
Brilliant
